Banned Book Giveaway: Twenty Boy Summer

Congratulations to commenter 5: book_pusher!!
*Giveaway now closed*

During Banned Books Week the Springfield-Green County Library system (Missouri) held a series of events. The headliner this year was a visit from Sarah Ockler whose book Twenty Boy Summer was banned from the Republic school system and later made available to students with parental permission. You can view more links and read some of my ramblings about it here. The Republic Monitor recently published an interview with Ockler, taken after a Read-Out at the Republic Branch Public Library. -link-

I did always want to read The Catcher in the Rye, but never have & The Giver was always one of my favorite books :)

I adore Little Women & Call of the Wild. Slaughterhouse Five is one I definitely want to get to sometime, too. It's so sad that they ban books.

I'm not familiar with that book and can't think of a banned book right now...
But I love reading your blog and have an award for you on my site! :)

My favorite banned books are Farenheit 451, The Giver, and A Wrinkle in Time. Fahrenheit 451's banishment makes me laugh every time: after all, what's the book about?

I love reading banned books; it's always funny to figure out why they were banned (or at least I find comedy in it). Anyway, the favorites that I've read are The Catcher in the Rye, Lolita, and 1984 -- 1984 being my all-time favorite.

I have always wanted to read Call of the Wild but have yet to. I also considered reading 1984.

The first banned book that I remember reading (that I knew had been challenged before I started reading it) was The Giver, I think.

Sometimes I think my favourite books are banned books. I even have a beautiful charm bracelet given to my by my aunt that says "I read Banned Books" and features the cover art from "Go Ask Alice", The Color Purple", "Howl", "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", "Annie on my Mind", and "To Kill a Mockingbird" I love it because I've read all of the above. ;) I have also read and loved most of the books mentioned by others above, especially George Orwell's books. From Chaucer (Canterbury Tales) to Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code), it's wild to see which books are controlled and why!

I was referred to your giveaway when I added "Twenty boy Summer" on goodreads, and love your initiative! COngrats to the lucky winner!

I READ BANNED BOOKS! :)

To Kill a Mockingbird has to be my favorite banned book. Scout can be an ornery little girl, but she is truly goodhearted. Atticus is the father I wished I'd had. His love and courage and conviction is remarkable.
